The latest versions of IPython, a rich interactive shell for Python, provide a Qt-based console with enhanced GUI controls, such as embedded images, multiline editing, and session sharing. It works nicely with the Python interface to Madagascar. This allows for a Matlab-like or Mathematica-like experience with running Madagascar interactively. This style of computing is not recommended, however, because it may lead to computations that are hard to reproduce.
Wow, I was not aware of this capability! I will make Epydoc cover it as well.
Unfortunately not even regular python self-doc (“help m8r”) worked on the m8r module, let alone Epydoc… Some other method of documenting the SWIG interface file may be needed. Reading api/python/m8r.i reveals interfaces for common C functions in rsflib, but not for the standalone programs. It is not clear what standalone programs the m8r module provides interfaces to — everything in $RSFROOT/bin, or just a subset?
On March 23, Fernando Perez, the creator of IPython, received the Award for the Advancement of Free Software. The award was presented by Richard Stallman, the president of the Free Software Foundation, at a ceremony in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
