Conclusions

The proposed approach to well-log interpolation provides an effective and efficient method to build a subsurface model that integrates rock property measurements and seismic images while honoring faults and other discontinuities. We have introduced a new definition, geologic distance, to replace the horizontal distance in interpolation. The new representation incorporates more structural information such as seismic horizons and fault attributes. The key benefit of the proposed workflow is the significant improvement of interpolation around fault regions, which is demonstrated in numerical examples. The proposed interpolation can help build correct and robust initial models for further seismic inversion.
