Draft of the 2015 Working Workshop - Seismic Field Data Processing

Some possible additions are:

  • Keynote speaker
  • Use box lunches so we can have presentations (keynote?) during lunch
  • Have install session on Wednesday to help new comers install Linux, Seismic Unix, Madagascar, or other (open?) software.

2015 Working Workshop - Stratton 3D Land Seismic Processing

Working Workshops as opposed to "talking workshops" are meetings where the participants work together (possibly divided into pairs or small teams) to develop new software code or to conduct computational experiments addressing a particular problem.

Objective

This workshop invites participants to create processing results on the small, open data, 3D land project, Stratton 3D. Participants may use proprietary or open software. Participants will make a final presentation describing the programs, parameters, and data (input and output) in sufficient detail so the results can be reproduced after the workshop.

The presentations, input data, and output data with be archived and made available after the workshop for training and research.

Participants are invited to download the Stratton 3D data before the workshop by following the links at http://wiki.seg.org/wiki/Open_data#Stratton-3D after May 22, 2015. Data includes:

  • Unprocessed prestack data with source and receiver coordinates in headers
  • Processed cdp gathers
  • Final processed volume
  • Avo attributes
  • Well logs and vsp

The idea is to bring together research geophysicist, programmers, students, and anyone else who’s interested in collaborating on a single 3D dataset. Possible projects are:

  • Process the data through a complete or partial processing sequence and compare to the previous processing
  • Identify an interesting problem in the data work on a solution.
  • Create 3D land processing training material
  • Modify/adapt/change one of these items or come up with something completely on your own.

Participants are expected to bring laptops with the software they will use to process the seismic data during the workshop.

Get sponsorship to attend

Funds are available for domestic or international travel for an individual or a two person team to attend the working workshop. Download the Stratton dataset on May 22, 2014. Create some preliminary results, make a proposal, and submit it to ????? by June 22. The team with the best proposal will fly to Houston to participate in the workshop.
